Mind Mapping
Open Mind is an intuitively laid-out program that lets you create mind maps to help organize your ideas for your own projects or to share with others. With tons of options and tools included, this program offers a complete package, and it allows you to integrate various types of multimedia, as well.
Pros
Clean interface: This program offers tons of options for bubble shapes, connecting lines, colors, and more, all easily accessible from the tools and controls laid out around the main viewing window. There are multiple ways to add a new bubble to your chart, and each bubble has its own control window where you can add text and adjust other bubble properties. Hovering your mouse at the top of the viewing window brings up another set of tools, and there are also options available from the drop-down menus at the top of the screen.
Charts and lists: Integrating charts and lists into your mind maps is straightforward and convenient with this program. In fact, all you have to do is enter in the data that you want to include, and then choose the type of output format you'd like. Options include pie, bar, and horizontal bar charts, as well as line graphs and scatter graphs.
Cons
One at a time: The program only allows you to work on one mind map at a time. This makes it hard to compare ideas and findings, and many similar apps offer a tabbed interface that lets you move back and forth from one document to another.
Bottom Line
Open Mind Map
Open Mind is a convenient and intuitive program. It's free to try for seven days, but you can't save or export any of your work during that time. The full version costs $19.95 to buy.
